I'm so glad you saw it as such a significant moment, Lance. It felt that way to me, too. I think it was also Don's natural kindness, something he's never shied away from displaying on-camera.
I rarely watch CNN, but was flipping channels and caught 'the hug.' Have to say I was stunned - in a good way. It's easy to overlook the fact that this was a pioneering, benchmark moment. Thanks to Don for his humanity and fearlessness: and to you, for recognizing the special significance in his kind gesture.
As a 26 year "Long Term Survivor", ALL praise and blessings to God for growth, love and the minds that have been opened to humanity and compassion. Blessings to you Mark for your light is shining bright! Best always!

Absolutely, Robert. Don was utterly professional, and showed genuine concern and kindness to me on both occasions. I was just surprised on my recent visit, that he felt comfortable enough to "act human," as you say, and was thrilled that he did.

Mark, I'm sure that your first interview with Don Lemon--the accompanying stress of television studio lights & cameras affected much your perceptions of what was going on. In life, most of us judge ourselves more harshly than people who view us through critical lenses. During Don Lemon's time as a newscaster on Chicago's NBC 5, I regularly viewed newscasts which he appeared on. I had no idea of Don Lemon's sexual orientation--however, I did think his reporting was balanced & professional. At times professional obligations, the burdens that every human must bear, & so many other things keep us from acting human. I'm glad you allowed "... the sweetness of ..." Don's gesture to win out.
