Why does poz dot com and many others refer to the Republican Party as GOP? Firstly, I believe it stands for the Grand Old Party - so shouldn't it be the GOP or TGOP, even? Secondly, it sounds like a term of self praise by the Republican Party itself, and yet I notice that the term GOP isn't just used by Republicans. Why would Democrats write or speak about GOP? Or do Democrats mean something else when they say or write GOP? Am I the only on to question this?
