What an interesting contradiction. Poz, gay, conservative Republican. I know he somehow accounts for this in some terms but I have yet to read any sensible accounting of this. But limited government, a vague term, must also mean limited access to HIV care for the indigent. On its face anyway. So how can a highly educated HIV+ gay man account for his expressed belief in this political view? How does empathy for the indigent HIV community fit into a conservative limited government philosophy? I'm sure there's an explanation out there but I haven't seen it yet. I know he has taken hits from the right for marching out of step or even being 'rogue.' That aside, I don't get him at all. A PhD from Harvard tells me he has to be brilliant. But he supports W, supports a war(s) that are costly on many levels (so much for limited government) yet is surprised when these misdirected, mismanaged and expensive wars get out of control. It takes little research to know that the middle east wars were planned before 9/11 (search "Project for a New American Century" for details.) So a self described neo-con is shocked and surprised by mismanagement of the neo-con wars? I don't think so. I'm no expert on anything and I mean do disrespect toward Mr. Sullivan. His journey is his journey but what appears to be contradictions and/or internal conflict is interesting if not curious.

Actually, politics IS life because of its influence over life, and the ability to continue living it, especially with HIV/AIDS. Why anyone with HIV/AIDS would be a conservative is really beyond me. Conservatives are in support of social Darwinism on the one hand, while claiming moral superiority on the other. Even though I don't personally believe in deities, I'd like to ask Andrew, as well as other Republicans, "What would Jesus do?" I find it telling that there isn't more urgency in Andrew's voice. Is this due the size of his bank account, or perhaps he has the luxury of returning to England, and government healthcare.
