The city of right angles and tough, damaged people. - Pete Hamill

On January 1, 2009 I will have lived half of my life in New York City - eighteen years and four months get or take. I descending on the city during New Year Eve’s December 31, 1989 (at age 19) ...and partied like its 1999?! Beginning a brand new chapter, transferring into Parsons School of Design, seroconverting at age 22, landing a Ralph Lauren design job before I even graduated, diagnosis with tuberculosis at 24 , etc. (you’re getting the picture.) The bittersweetness of it all...

"...if you can made it there (even with AIDS, on disability, but with a loving family and friends)...you make it anywhere, it’s up to you New York, New York...?

New York is an arrogant city; it has always wanted to be all things to all people, and a surprising amount of the time it has succeeded. New York is a different country. Maybe it ought to have a separate government. Everybody thinks differently, acts differently --they just don’t know what the hell the rest of the United States is. - Henry Ford

I miss New York. I still love how people talk to you on the street - just assault you and tell you what they think of your jacket. - Madonna

When you leave New York, you are astonished at how clean the rest of the world is. Clean is not enough. - Fran Lebowitz
