I was diagnosed in 1997 (Boston). I’m 53 yo, single, and (hopefully), planning on retiring in 10/11 years. My doctors say I’m a “long term survivor” - I take my meds religiously & undetectable. I have no support - people wise - most of my family / friends are currently elderly - over 70+. Im very scared if I live to 70+. No long term care insurance (excluded by insurance companies because of being hiv+), my family/friends will be dead or dying by the time I reach my 70’s. Very depressing.

This July will mark my 33rd year since I was diagnosed with HIV. When diagnosed we Scottsdale AZ I had to travel to LA or San Francisco or NYC to even find physicians who could provide even minimal care. I remember so vividly parking my rental car in the lot of the only pharmacy in WEHO that had AZT in stock and waiting while they filled my Rx and then finding my insurance company would not pay for the Rx.
