i just had an experience with life insurance denial. i have been a very healthy positive person for 20 years. I am now a member of AARP and the Insurance (term life and whole life)offers come in the mail. NEW YORK LIFE. Anyway It says no medical exam just 3 questions. Prior to getting the form i assumed one of the question would be HIV status. I only asked for the lowest amt 10,000.00, one policy for me and another for my partner. Nothing was asked about being a smoker , alcoholic or even Diabetes. All 3 which are equally a health issue. I was just wanting enough to cover a cremation on both of us when that time comes. I received my denail notice and the reason was the HIV diagnosis. Something just seems wrong with that. Seems like some company should do a graduated system if they dont want to do it regular (though i believe they should if you are healthy). graduated like, 1st 5 years you would get half the policy amt, 10 yrs all like anyone else. also the mean age (from a study i believe was on POZ) life expectancy now for male , healthy hiv + person is 78. I think this is just wrong. (i have life thru my job, but my partner does not so it would have been nice to be able to get the policy for when we need it.)
