Whatever he is seeking for prosperous land america if he cant have a right ...for me hes welcome here to comeback Philippines.....I have most of my families in america some are green card and yes its true there are jobs that only most immigrants can do...If you feel its competition for your rights and benefits for this person..then go on....discriminate fight for your right....as we filipinos are very humble people to welcome Americans in our country and give them chance and assistance for your chances living here in my country.I never dream america my country is a paradise....I got my + status to my european bf as i have love i accept it but choosing for him to live in my country is an honor...not an american dream people talking here....its compassion.

Unless Mr. McMillan is Native American, he is a descendant of immigrants. How disappointing to hear his (hypocritical) opinion. During the previous waves of immigration such stringent policies were not in place. It was only after the arrival of the European immigrants, that the rules were changed. It is interesting to note that the same things he says about immigrants today were said about the immigrants of yesterday. The irony in his opinion is not to be missed. --Grandchild of an Irish immigrant

Immigration is a very complex issue with alot of competing ideas about what, if anything, should be done to amend our system. The types of immigrants that have come here over the ages is documented at the Ellis Island exhibit in NY. You can visit the internet site at: http://www.ellisisland.org/genealogy/ellis_island.asp First and foremost, immigrants come to the USA to escape economic hardship. In the early days of our country it was to escape political or religous persecution mainly. But for whatever the reason, the reason can be simply derived as "to be free...of something". And as one commenter noted...it causes us to compete. Guess what makes us more competitive on the global market? The ability to adapt and also compete... makes us more competitive. And the strongest asset the USA has ever had is our diversity. That is actually what made us develop to a superpower among nations. So we should tread lightly when we scream from the rooftops to deport immigrants with an illegal status. I personally think that we should deport those who do not aspire to our core values....meaning not religious or political but of prospering and acheiving certain benchmarks like a fulltime job a college degree, or making contributions to the communities that they live in. Those who commit felonies or do not honor our "core" laws might be deported. As a nation we must come to a decision on this so that we can move forward and remain prosperous.

Well it's just this kind of sentiment that demonstrates what is so broken about our immigration and naturalization systems in the US. The US was founded by immigrants looking for a better life. They were looking for a better life to escape oppression of various types but also because economic conditions in their own countries were such that coming to America seemed like a viable option for advancement. Whatever the reason, America offered hope and it was those very immigrants who turned our country into one of the most prosperous nations on Earth. I agree that we must have borders and we must be able to defend those borders, but we must also have a better system for persons seeking to come here to do so legally and for those who are already here to stay. Enough of the fear about not having enough to go around. There will never be enough to go around regardless of the number of immigrants in our country so to engage in a coverasation of "we must first deal with those who are already here" almost seems silly. Look at our own struggling ADAP programs for evidence of that. What many fail to overlook is that most immigrants come here to work, not to get on welfare. Look around and you'll see plenty of people receiving welfare that could be doing some of the jobs most often left to immigrants because most people don't want to do those jobs. Let's have America be the land of "can" instead of "can't".

He is not the same as us. He is an illegal immigrant in our country. If he were really proud about being an American he should have sought help after finding out that he was here illegally Our system would have had leniency on him because he was a minor. I am sick and tired of people coming into the USA to seek a better life Noyt because they are escaping oppession or genocide or looking for political asylum But simply for economic reasons. I am a gay man with AIDS I was a founding member of ACT UP Chicago I have been a human rights advocate all of my adult life. I have great compassion for others. I was an election observor in El Salvador's 1994 elction after their civil war. I wish no harm toward anyone But I cannot accept illegal aliens in my country. I know of no other country in the world that allows this If we have no borders than we are not a nation. It's fundamentally wrong and it needs to be remedied. I have to compete with these individuals for healthcare, entitlements, and social services. And it's not just me Many other Americans have to compete for these same benefits It's not fair to them We need to help our own poor and downtrodden and veterans and people who need health care first before extending that outstretched hand He should be deported Ifeel that many people are getting a thrill by stating that they are illegal immigrants because they know our government won't do anything about it. He is not an undocumented worker! He's illegaly in the USA!
