I never really gave this much thought about being black and living with HIV. I don't have any problems with discussing race and the issues of race relations in America or any other country. HIV is a disease that not only affects black people but all races. We just can't put ourselves in a cubical and say we will be treated differently than any other ethnicity. Yes, there are stigmas placed on black people as a group, so are they placed on other groups in society. We can learn from others.

When I was in 5thgrade,black people were denied the vote in some regions, but you could be drafted and sent to Vietnam, now young blacks must vote in droves November 2018,supreme court could go all conservative let's get the Congress while there time or we will more rights taken away,I thought I wouldn't see such racism resurgent in my 64 years, vote your life does depend on it,November 6 2018 the most important election in country's history.

Florida: Dude seriously? Do you honestly believe that being black and HIV positive is some kind of magical wonderland? That it means people just walk around and give us free stuff? I can't believe you really think that's true. Because if asked if you would trade places with a black person and live their life instead of yours, I'm betting you'd say no. And you would say no because you realize that being black is a step down in status. Please, examine yourself and why you posted what you just did.

What a great article! It was a pleasure to read and feel the dimension of a long term medical condition that is hardly ever said. Discrimination comes in many different forms. The obvious ones can easily be overlooked. The way open discrimination is legitamized by pretending it's not happening. From the very beginning AIDS was about discrimination. It's one thing to suffer in silence and another to pretend it's all Okay.

Florida: That’s the whole point of the article. White people just don’t understand. Your statement “Being black means you should get everything handed to you free and being Caucasian means you do not get any help” is precisely that; the racist view of most white, entitled people.

I don't understand the emphasis given to the black population that are HIV? I am a white HIV survivor for over 30 years and I have had to struggle and fight for all my care. In my area only the black population has access to drug assistance and they have a government sponsored HIV Clinic and assistance. I tried to get help from this Agency only to be denied because I am Caucasian! Being black means you should get everything handed to you free and being Caucasian means you do not get any help
