Stigma, shame and ignorance perpetuate HIV infection. People who are open about their HIV infection need to be spotlighted at events like ias and in public media.

What bother's me most about the 'invisibility' of people living with HIV & AIDS as plenary speakers at AIDS 2012 are how this can happen when you look at the members of the AIDS 2012 Conference Coordinating Committee (CCC) (http://www.aids2012.org/Default.aspx?pageId=316). Several individuals/organizations living with HIV & AIDS who hold influential positions in the United States AIDS community seem to be bereft of comment or explanation (or real influence). I think there should be a call out to our friends and partners at CCC for explanation and accountability to a process that has provided a clearly status quo outcome to a conference that proclaims to 'Turn The Tide'.
