Red Ribbon Event on World AIDS Day
SEEDS of Healing (SOH) will host the 2nd Annual Red Ribbon Event on December 1st at the Cameron Art Museum. SOH will be collaborating with the Frank Harr Foundation presenting 20 plus blocks of the AIDS Memorial Quilt throughout various locations in Wilmington, NC for a 2 week period in recognition of World AIDS Day to bring awareness of the ongoing epidemic, its impact on marginalized populations, our community at large, and to help remove the associated stigma of HIV/AIDS. The Red Ribbon Event resonates our community collaborative message to “ThinkRedILM”. Wilmington, NC (ILM) is in south east NC and amongst the nation’s area of increasing rates for new HIV infections and number of persons living with HIV.
Keynote Speaker, Dr. Sabrina T. Cherry is Assistant Professor of Public Health Studies at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and author of “My determination is to live”: Narratives of African-American Women Who Have Lived with HIV for 10 or More Years. Dr. Cherry’s primary research interests are community-based and the majority of her work as a practitioner and educator have focused on addressing health disparities - including HIV - by increasing access to care; conducting research alongside communities impacted by health disparities; and designing, implementing, and evaluating community health programs.
