Stay Well at Home with The Well Project

To address the extraordinary and challenging times we are living in, The Well Project is pleased to have launched Stay Well at Home with The Well Project, which started on April 8. These bi-weekly (every other week) video/chat series feature women living with HIV sharing positive approaches to help navigate the isolation and other challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic is causing so many of us to experience. Sessions include exercise, meditation, yoga, cooking, art, and more. Let’s stay connected to each other while taking a collective mental health break.

Sessions began on April 8 and take place every other Wednesday from 12 pm – 1 pm ET. Please see below for the schedule and check back often for an update to the speakers and topics.

Upcoming Sessions

Session 4 – May 20, 2020: Expression Through Word

Aryah Lester will lead this interactive session to help us explore using creative writing as support during difficult circumstances. We will create poetry and other forms of written word, allowing ourselves to express our emotions through paper and symbolism. Participants should come to the session with a writing utensil and paper or an electronic device with a writing app. In addition to her roles as a Well Project CAB member and A Girl Like Me blogger, Aryah serves as the deputy director of the Transgender Strategy Center.

Session 5 – June 3, 2020: Work Those Arms, Strong Bodies, Strong Minds

Susan Mull will offer a workout session using weights to maintain arm strength and flexibility. This session will help accentuate the strength and beauty that we all have inside us and provide guidance into the ways that we can empower each other. In between exercises, she will share the poetry of Joy Harjo, Nikki Giovanni, and Naomi Shihab Nye. This session will encourage mental, physical, and spiritual wellness. Participants should bring weights if you have them. Susan is an A Girl Like Me Blogger, a Speak Up presenter, and a member of PWN-USA.

Session 6 – June 17, 2020: Budget Basics with Ieshia

No matter what we call it, we all make, spend, and save money. Budgeting often feels a task, especially during the current COVID-19 pandemic. And yet, this is a great moment to take the time to prepare a budget that we can use when social distancing eases. In this session, Ieshia Scott will break down key terms in budgeting, review a sample budget, and introduce the process of creating individual plans for spending and saving. Be sure to grab your financial statements and identify your expenses prior to the session! Ieshia is a Well Project CAB member and the CEO of Positive Support.

Session 7 – July 1, 2020: Skin Care Routine with Miss Dees

Porchia Dees will teach us how to create a do-it-yourself (DIY) face mask from materials we have in our kitchen! She will also share her skin care routine, while sharing some of the things she does to stay sane as a single woman living alone with no kids. We will share information about ingredients soon! Porchia is a member of The Well Project’s CAB and a blogger for A Girl Like Me. She is also an HIV testing counselor at AHF.
