Since its founding as a small, volunteer-led, community organization 50 years ago, Callen-Lorde has grown into a global leader in LGBTQ healthcare and a vital resource for New York’s LGBTQ communities.

Callen-Lorde is a thriving multi-site Federally Qualified Community Health Center providing high-quality, culturally competent health care and related services to patients and clients free of judgement and regardless of ability to pay. Last year alone, Callen-Lorde served nearly 18,000 patients who made 110,000 visits to its facilities in Manhattan and the Bronx. (see www.callen-lorde.org)

THE POSITION: The Chief People Officer will be a member of Callen-Lorde’s Senior Leadership Team and a key thought and strategic partner to the Executive Director in creating a strong, intentional, and inclusive workplace culture that supports Callen-Lorde’s mission of achieving LGBTQ health – including racial – equity. This newly structured position will be responsible for identifying and implementing current best practices for human resource systems, policies, and teams and will play a lead role in evolving a working environment in which employees can thrive and, in turn, promote thriving communities.

REQUIREMENTS:  There are 3 key ‘Must Haves’ for this critical role at Callen-Lorde:
1) Content expertise in developing and implementing best-in-class human resources policies, programs, tools, and services.

2) A track record of building and transforming organizational cultures to center equity, anti-bias, and anti-racism in all aspects.

3) Deep knowledge and understanding of intersectional issues, including discrimination, access, and equity, facing the communities Callen-Lorde serves. Experience in healthcare or a related field, and/or with organized labor forces, would also be of significant value in this position.

CANDIDATE PROFILE: The successful candidate could from any number of backgrounds – executive leadership of another nonprofit organization, senior-level HR role, human capital or diversity/inclusion consulting, head of diversity/inclusion in a hospital or healthcare system, etc. Regardless of career path, however, all candidates should be personally and professional equipped to lead in an environment where a full spectrum of diverse, intersectional identities are represented and celebrated. In all likelihood, this person will also share one or more identities with the people and communities Callen-Lorde serves: gay, lesbian, bisexual, people of color, and/or trans/nonbinary people.
