The Community mental health manager position is an innovative behavioral health position designed to grow and develop mental health services designed to serve  LGBTQ and more generally communities based on the south and west side of Chicago. This role will include outreach functions, meeting with community leaders and stakeholders, and identifying and selecting strategies and frameworks to promote health and wellness. It will entail building and strengthening partnerships with agencies or individuals providing existing services.  This is a dynamic position designed to identify and mentor/support therapists who provide one on one, couples and group therapy.  This position co leads the mental health team.

 

  • The Community Mental Health Manager will be responsible for the following:
  • Supervision of therapists that are providing therapy services at future expansion sites for behavioral health.
  • Evaluating and creating linkages to existing BHS resources with a focus on South and West side geographic locations.
  • Identify future partnerships to aid in the maximization of BHS service delivery and assess current resources available in the community.
  • Works hand in hand as co leader with the mental health service manager(s) in the creation, coordination and implementation of innovative individual, couples, and group mental health services under the supervision of the Director of Behavioral Health (BHS). 
  • The Community Mental Health Manager provides administrative and/or clinical supervision of direct reports.  The Community Mental Health Manager coordinates disposition/client assignment for mental health clients, collaborating with other department programs as necessary.  The Community Mental Health Manager will communicate with the Billing Department to improve reimbursement, benefit verification processes and billing procedures for BHS. 
  • As a member of the BHS management team, the Community Mental Health Manager will be involved in department budgeting, clinical flow management, quality improvement activities, program outcome assessment and program development.
  • In addition to administrative and supervisory duties, the Community Mental Health Manager provides assessment and therapy for young adult, adult and older adult behavioral health, case management and primary care clients.  This includes, but is not limited to, assessment of needs and barriers to health, individual and group therapy, treatment planning, referral to internal and external resources, client psycho-education, discharge planning and crisis management.  Services provided will follow professional standards and ethical guidelines.  Howard Brown is an approved NHSC loan repayment site.  Additional information can be found at: http://nhsc.hrsa.gov.

  • PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, organize and manage the work of mental health direct reports. Develop program goals and objectives, develop program procedures, and develop and implement innovative mental health programming to meet clinical and agency need.
  • Review mental health program performance and quality improvement efforts, and effect changes as needed to improve service delivery and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide clinical consultation/supervision for the mental health program.
  • Manage and respond to complaints related to mental health staff or services.
  • Develop services that support embedded community behavioral health- including innovative programming, outreach and other methods that are customized to community based BHS.
  • Conduct screenings, make referrals, complete assessments, and provide therapy.
  • Provide crisis assessment and intervention to behavioral health and primary care clients, and other individuals presenting in crisis.
  • Document patient contact/progress concisely in the electronic medical record in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Meets weekly productivity standards including, but not limited to, number of encounters per week.
  • Ensure highest quality of care by collaborating with other disciplines (i.e., medical, case management, psychiatry, linkage to care) to improve client mental and physical health.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities including program evaluation, staff development, continuing education and outcome assessment. 
  • Supervise volunteers and trainees working within BHS. Provide consultation to other staff, trainees and volunteers on clinical issues.
  • Attend and participate in all required meetings, including department and program meetings, agency committee meetings, agency all staff meetings, trainings and group consultation.
  • Maintain the highest level of patient confidentiality.
  • Provide timely and succinct feedback to PCPs, case managers, linkage to care workers and other staff regarding client condition and possible barriers to care for shared clients.
  • Provide education to the general public and other professionals through public speaking engagements and workshops as assigned.
  • Communicate with billing staff, the Ryan White Coordinator and practice management staff regarding client issues as necessary.
