Overview

Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director, the Development Director is responsible for planning, organizing and directing all development strategies at Our House, including the annual fund, major gifts, special events, and grants. This position manages a development team of 1.5 FTEs and works with board members and volunteers, as well as collaborates closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications.

General Information
  • Develop overall strategies for giving at all levels, and create annual development plans in alignment with organizational budget and strategic goals.
  • With development team, develop detailed event work plans for annual auction and dinner series. Staff event committees.
  • Steward corporate sponsorship of events and manage relationships with community partners.
  • Develop donor stewardship and recognition strategies for donors at all levels.
  • Develop major gift strategy and collateral. Assign portfolios for stewardship.
  • Develop materials and prospect lists for planned giving asks.
  • Manage corporate giving, including workplace giving campaigns.
  • Coordinate meetings with staff directors on priorities for grant seeking.
  • Work with contract grant writer to develop grants strategy and annual grants calendar. Maintain comprehensive grants files, including current and past funders.
  • Maintain relationships with foundation representatives. Ensure deadlines for grant applications and all grant related deliverables are met. Work with Marketing & Communications Director to coordinate communications and marketing strategies, including online and print communications and collateral for events and campaigns.
  • Prepare monthly development updates for written and oral communications with the board. Attend board meetings every other month.
  • Educate, train, and involve the board, volunteers, staff and other key stakeholders on their role in development.
  • Speak at Our House events and in other forums to educate the public about Our House and cultivate new donors and volunteers.
  • Network in the community to cultivate new contacts and find new prospects as donors and volunteers.
  • Provide adequate staff supervision to the Development Manager and Development & Volunteer Coordinator. Hold productive and inspiring team meetings.
  • Stay informed about trends in philanthropy and grant making. Attend regional workshops and conferences. Network with other development professionals.
  • Keep informed on the continually changing nature of HIV.
Qualifications
  • Must embrace the mission of Our House.
  • Understand and support the Our House culture. Act with integrity and ethics.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of issues facing persons living with HIV, histories of mental illness, homelessness, and/or substance use disorders.
  • Demonstrate leadership with an emphasis on sound judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills. Strong public speaking skills.
  • Have 5 years minimum experience in professional development.
  • Success in reaching fundraising goals of $1.2+ million.
  • Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members, and other volunteers.
  • Experience in leading volunteer committees and nurturing volunteer leadership.
  • Have the desire to get out of the office and build external relationships.
  • Be a self-starter, goal driven and innovative thinker.
  • Be organized and on time with deadlines, and exhibit follow through on tasks and goals.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.

Full time position, 40 hours per week.
