The CDC seeks exceptional candidates for the position of Director, Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention (DHAP), National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP). As a leader at CDC, the Division Director will play a key role to bring together and utilize the tools and the science available to end the HIV epidemic in the United States.

The Division conducts national surveillance of HIV; provides consultation and statistical, epidemiological, clinical, behavioral and laboratory research and other technical services to assist state and local health departments as well as national, state and local non-governmental organizations in the planning, development, implementation and overall improvement of HIV prevention programs; conducts epidemiologic, clinical, surveillance, etiologic, health services and operational research into factors affecting the prevention of HIV; develops recommendations and guidelines on the prevention of HIV and associated illnesses; monitors sentinel surveillance of HIV infections and infectious diseases and other complications of HIV; monitors surveillance of risk behaviors associated with HIV transmission; and determines risk factors and transmission patterns of HIV.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The DHAP Director manages, directs, coordinates, oversees, and evaluates activities of the Division. This position provides scientific leadership and expertise for HIV prevention research and surveillance and for the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based HIV prevention programs. The director will develop goals and objectives for DHAP and provide overall programmatic direction for program planning and policy formulation. The incumbent is responsible for providing leadership, direction and oversight for the work of, and staff assigned to, DHAP through subordinate supervisors. He or she serves as one of the Center’s senior advisors in planning and coordinating methods development and application projects in support of major agency programs and executes the administrative and personnel management responsibilities related to the accomplishment of the mission assigned. The Director develops and maintains relationships among a variety of national and international public health, medical, and environmental organizations, other government agencies, academic institutions, and state and local health departments; and develops goals and objectives and provides leadership, policy formulation, and guidance in program planning and development. The Director is also responsible for planning, developing, and implementing the Division’s policy and program objectives, developing operating plans, and evaluating progress.
