Job Summary

The Director of Education and Outreach is an HIV prevention team position for a skilled community health educator who is primarily responsible for promoting and providing HIV testing to high risk populations. The job responsibilities include a primary focus on providing HIV counseling, testing, and referral services, developing and implementing high impact social marketing campaigns, coordinating off-site outreach and testing events and activities, and data collection and reporting (internal and external).

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in Community Health or related field or equivalent education and experience
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS
  • Possess current valid driver’s license
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse community groups

Highly preferred:

  • Experience in completing state and federally mandated reporting (CAREWare, etc)
  • Experience in HIV education and outreach
  • Experience developing and implementing social marketing plans
  • Certification by Whetstone Consultations for Counseling, Testing and Referral(CTR)
  • Rapid testing certification (HIV, HCV and syphilis)

Responsibilities:

Testing

  • Develop, implement and evaluate CTR goals and objectives
  • Provide rapid HIV/HCV/syphilis CTR within the office and at special events
  • Maintain inventory control and ordering of testing supplies and insure adherence to budget guidelines
  • Insure proper documentation of CTR files, and maintenance and select files for quarterly audits.

Administration

  • Develop and maintain policy and procedures for department.
  • Develop a yearly operational plan for Prevention Department and operate within budget.
  • Maintain databases for CTR and education program
  • Complete all state and federally mandated CTR and educational reporting
  • Assist ED in recruitment, training and supervision of education department staff and volunteers
  • Assist ED in grant writing and reporting for Education Department for all education activities
  • Attend workshops and seminars to remain current and updated in the HIV/AIDS field, and professional aspects of the position
  • Attend state and network meetings to report agency’s Prevention efforts

Education/ Outreach

  • Compile and evaluate prevention goals and objectives
  • Develop, implement and evaluate a comprehensive strategic plan for HIV prevention for high risk populations (BMSMs, MSMs, African Americans, Latinos, Trans* and IDUs)
  • Create curriculums as necessary that incorporate; purpose, goals, objectives, need, description, activities, and evaluation components.
  • Develop relationships with community leaders and organization in order to coordinate and facilitate community outreach activities such as health fairs, community events, National Testing Days, World AIDS Day, Panel Discussions, etc.
  • Maintain agency’s social media presence and online agency calendar for outreach and special events
  • Meet with Disease Intervention Specialists and stay informed of hot spots in region
  • Stay current on intervention models and trends in the region
  • Act as community liaison and attend meetings of the United Way and other community partners
  • Write newsletter articles highlighting departmental activities as needed

Other

  • Assist at two fundraising events annually (ALFAlympics & Winter Gala), and others as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Report to: Executive Director

Salary Range: $33,000-36,000
