Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS (SWHIV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit healthcare organization founded in 1990 in direct response to the AIDS pandemic. SWHIV is a medical and support center for people living with or at risk for contracting HIV/AIDS and is the largest clinical, education, and prevention center dedicated to fighting HIV/AIDS in the Southwest. The center provides comprehensive behavioral health, nutrition, and wellness services making it among the most prominent HIV/AIDS organizations in the Western United States. SWHIV’s vision is to eliminate infection and improve quality of life for communities touched by HIV/AIDS and is carried out through its mission of serving individuals touched by HIV/AIDS through prevention, education, client-centered services and coordinated care in collaboration with community partners.

Position Summary:

The Director of Prevention and Intervention Services plans, organizes, and directs the major activities if the Prevention and Intervention Services department. Department programs include: HIV Medical Case Management, HIV/STD Testing and Linkage to Care; and HIV Prevention Services. The position establishes department and program policies; provides technical and programmatic supervision and oversight of the development and administration of direct client services; directs the activities of assigned personnel; and performs related work as required.

Essential Functions (Illustrative only):

  • Plans, organizes, supervises, and coordinates the activities of the Prevention & Intervention Services Department.

  • Selects, supervises, and evaluates assigned staff.

  • Directs or oversees the operating budget and spending of department programs.

  • Represents the department and agency before boards and community groups relating to client services and programs.

  • Analyzes, creates, monitors, and responds to reports and correspondence.

  • Participates as a member of the agency’s Senior Leadership team.

  • Engages with clients by providing direct service activities as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a field directly related to the administration of social services, such as social work, psychology, public health, or human services related field.
  • Four (4) years of full-time, progressively responsible professional experience in a service program that included direct client contact. Less than four years (and at least two years) of experience will be considered if applicant’s have a Master’s Degree in Social Work or closely related field.
  • Four years of supervisory experience including at least some of the following: program development, planning, evaluation, and administration; budget development and administration; and interpreting and applying local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and rules governing administration of health and/or social services

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to train staff and step into direct services role in all program areas as needed.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of HIV social and healthcare services administration.
  • Knowledge of assessment and program evaluation, human services delivery systems, and HIV treatment and prevention approaches and techniques.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of technical supervision with skill in applying practices to motivate people and to direct and evaluate the work of employees.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret local, state, and federal regulations and policies governing the administration of HIV services, including HIV/STD testing and HIV case management programs.
