$40,000 yearly salary, potential for benefits including healthcare and salary increases
This is a full time role at Brave Space Alliance. Target Start Date of March 1st.
The Director of Programs is responsible for overseeing and administering all programs, volunteer efforts, and service-provision efforts for Brave Space Alliance. The Director of Programs reports directly to the Executive Director, and is responsible for supervising all other programming staff.
Job Duties:
Program Creation and Administration

Oversee implementation of BSA’s employment justice, pop-up center, and HIV/AIDS mutual aid programming

Ensure programs and services reach all parts of the South Side queer and trans communities

Develop new programs/initiatives as necessary, and assist in seeking funding for these programs/initiatives

Ensure programs meet or come in under budget expectations and meet goals

Supervise staff of Program Coordinators to assist in implementation of programming
Community interface

Serve as community ambassador for Brave Space Alliance to Black and Brown queer and trans community of Chicago

Recruit participants and clients for BSA programming and services

Track participation and overall community outreach of Brave Space Alliance

Create and disseminate marketing for BSA programming, services, and community opportunities
Volunteer coordination

Conduct quarterly volunteer trainings and build volunteer list and capacity
-
Manage and deploy volunteer list to boost Brave Space Alliance’s capability to appear at community events, and conduct programming
Miscellaneous Duties

Other duties as assigned by the Executive staff

Attend relevant meetings and committee sessions on behalf of BSA

Interface with partner organizations
Professional Qualifications:
-
2-5 years community organizing, and/or 2-5 years program experience in a nonprofit context
-
Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate a wide range of different programs

Deep understanding of the intersections of race, trans/non-binary identity, and class
-
Experience organizing on Chicago’s South Side, especially in low-income and Black communities

Understanding of the ballroom scene and culture

Strong written and oral communication skills

Strong teamwork and team-building skills

Ability to motivate and coordinate volunteers and other program staff

Capable of overseeing and evaluating program staff

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, GSuite, and social media communication

Strong commitment to serving the trans community of Chicago

Strong commitment to intersectional justice and trans liberation

Robust and dynamic problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Job Requirements:

The position requires the ability to travel extensively within Chicago, primarily within the South Side

The position requires occasional work on nights or weekends

Must be able to work effectively within a community-based environment
