Pay Range: $50,000 to $55,000 (commensurate with experience)
Location: Remote (Southern US)

Position Overview: The Southern AIDS Coalition [SAC] is hiring a mission-focused Health Policy Associate who will help to develop and implement its policy agenda. The Health Policy Associate supports SAC’s policy and advocacy efforts through data analysis, programmatic planning, and content development.  This position will explore health-related policies across the region, with a focus on tracking the most pertinent legislation and administrative actions, often with a focus on jurisdictions prioritized under the federal Ending the HIV Epidemic [EHE] plan.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary Duties (75%)

• Conducts research and analysis to assist in alignment with SAC’s policy priorities.
• Drafts and helps develop content for one-pagers, talking points, issue briefs, related charts and visuals, infographics, and presentations to be used with selected internal or external audiences to advance SAC policy activities.
• Assists Director of Public Policy & Advocacy in the development and implementation of major new policy initiatives and planning and coordinating policy related workshops meetings, and events.
• Support SAC’s Joining HANDS (HIV Advocacy Networks in the Deep South) partners by providing information and technical assistance related to policy research.
• Assist in planning and implementation of SAC’s Public Policy Committee meetings and work groups.
• Collect, monitor, and analyze data on HIV and inter-related health disparities for EHE jurisdictions.
• Identify opportunities to build connections between diverse public health partners, stakeholders, advocates, and community leaders.
• Support systems coordination and other EHE-focused efforts by contributing to research, design, and implementation of technical assistance tools (including fact sheets, webinars, toolkits, etc.).
• Other duties as assigned. 

Administrative (25%)  

• Maintain database of relevant legislation at local, state, & federal level.
• Maintain legislative tracking service to update Advocacy Action Center website
• Participate in inter-departmental funded projects Complete update reports and tracking tools as required (including use of Asana)
• Assist with preparation of reports on relevant grant-funded programs.
• Other tasks as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications: Qualified candidates will possess either:
A. A Master’s degree in public policy, public health, health administration, sociology, urban affairs, or a related discipline with at least one year’s relevant professional experience; or
B. A Bachelor’s degree in public policy, public health, health administration, sociology, or a related discipline and at least three (3) years of relevant professional experience; or
C. A high school diploma/equivalent with a minimum 5 years of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong desire to work with communities that are disproportionately impacted by HIV/AIDS in the South, including gay, bi, same-gender loving and other men-who-have-sex-with-men, Transgender or gender non-conforming persons, Latinx persons, cisgender Black women, and persons experiencing poverty;
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects, establish workload priorities, and meet deadlines;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to edit/proofread professional writing;
• Ability to take initiative, set goals, and execute tasks with limited direct supervision;
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and desired experience with database management; and
• Ability to travel and willingness to work some evenings and weekends as part of a flexible work schedule (travel is not currently required due to COVID-19, but upon reinstatement of travel, must be able to travel approximately 10% of the time) 

Location: The person in this role must reside in the southern United States. This position will also be 100% remote.

Compensation:  This is a salaried exempt position with a salary range of $50,000-$55,000 (commensurate with experience).  SAC also offers a robust benefits package, including 100% coverage of individual employee’s health insurance premium.
