WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Heartland CARES (HCI) is seeking a compassionate, energetic and committed mental health professional to provide mental health and substance use services to clients. Most services will be provided in our Paducah (KY) clinic, with a half day each month at our satellite clinic in Carbondale (IL).

The successful candidate will share HCI’s commitment to assisting people living with HIV and AIDS to receive critical health services.

The successful candidate will Interact effectively and consistently with a diverse group of people of different cultures, ages, genders, sexual orientations, disabilities, races and religious beliefs.

 

The successful candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively with HCI’s clinical, case management and housing teams to assist clients with the challenges of staying in care and on treatment.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

The mental health specialist will provide culturally sensitive mental health counseling and socio-psycho support services to individuals and groups living with HIV following standard clinical psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy and ethical principles of professional practice.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop treatment and rehabilitation plans in cooperation with clients
  • Work directly in a counseling relationship with clients in individual, couples and/or group therapy
  • Provide client intake and assessment services, including social history, mental health evaluation and social, community and functional assessments, using techniques that consider the varied needs of age-specific populations as well as cultural, religious and ethnic concerns.
  • Provide referrals and follow-up for psychiatric services, substance use interventions, medication management and other services
  • Perform crisis intervention including crisis management counseling, referral, and follow-up services
  • Develop and present classes and trainings for clients on a variety of mental health issues, such as substance use, smoking reduction/cessation, adherence, etc.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation in the Electronic Medical Records system
  • Participate in mental health and substance use community education and outreach activities.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of and measure progress towards defined outcomes of mental health and substance use interventions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related field.
  • Minimum of two years experience as an Independently Licensed Provider of Individual, Family, and Group Counseling.

Individual Psychotherapy and/or Group Counseling;

  • At least one year of experience in dealing with life threatening illnesses (acute & chronic) preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in working with substance use disorders
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

 Certification/License:

  • Professional licensure as required by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and State of Illinois. (If not currently independently licensed in Illinois, applicant must complete and submit appropriate application prior to the completion of the first week of work.
  • Certification by nationally recognized mental health and/or substance use organization or able to obtain within 6 months of hire date.

  • Communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writing.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively with internal and external partners to meet client needs and promote progress toward goals.
  • Discreetly handle confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Be computer literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Office as well as Electronic Medical Records and database systems.
