Job Description
Involves education and prevention activities in community sites where at–risks persons may congregate. Experience with diverse populations and bilingual ability preferred. Provides a support to persons with multiple and complex HIV risk/harm reduction needs. High school or equivalent. Knowledge of HIV/AIDS/STD’s, specifically around prevention, familiar with the medical community. Must have a valid driver license and reliable transportation. Must have an acceptable driving record and proof of liability insurance. Experience in counseling and community outreach preferred.
Responsibilities and Duties
Provide HIV testing and partner elicitation. Serve as a member of the prevention team and cross train to become familiar with prevention duties of other team members Provide a support mechanism for prevention strategies to new and existing clients Provide support to persons with multiple and complex HIV risk/harm reduction needs Assess risk for other sexually transmitted diseases and ensure referral for appropriate diagnosis and adequate treatment Provide monthly data to Outreach Coordinator Attend monthly departmental meetings Develop and implement a plan for client focused support groups Attend any other trainings offered that may fall under the scope of work Serve as a Centro de Salud Familiar La Fe representative for HIV Advocacy Provide HIV counseling and testing, a support mechanism, and act as an advocate for new and existing clients
Required Skills
Knowledge of HIV/AIDS/STI’S, specifically around prevention, Familiar with the medical community Must be a self starter Ability to work independently or as a team member, Computer skills, including word processing. Attain good communication skills (English and Spanish), public speaking and creative. Ability to travel to outreach testing or training events. Required Education
EHigh school Diploma or GED
Required Experience
Experience in HIV prevention Programs, Experience in counseling and community outreach preferred. License/Registration/Certification Must have a valid driver license and reliable transportation. Must have an acceptable driving record and proof of liability insurance. PBC Certification (Protocol Based Counseling) a class will be offered for this certification.
