The Riverside University Health System - Department of Public Health is recruiting to fill a Physician I-IV position within the HIV/STD Program. This position will provide outpatient care within a multi-discipline team. Competitive candidates will have experience providing medical care to HIV/STD patients and will possess a current and valid HIV Specialist certification with the American Academy of HIV Medicine. Internal medicine and general practitioners possessing experience providing care to HIV/STD patients are encouraged to apply.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The County of Riverside Department of Public Health’s (DOPH) vision is to excel at building healthy communities and its mission is to promote and protect the health of all county residents and visitors. To accomplish this mission, DOPH oversees fourteen (14) Branches and administers more than thirty (30) programs.  All programs, services and activities are organized around the 10 Essential Services of Public Health.  DOPH works in partnership and in many cases under contract with other County Departments including Environmental Health, Animal Services, Mental Health, Public Social Services, Office on Aging and the Health Care System to prevent disease and protect the health of County residents.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

The Sexually Transmitted Disease Program’s mission is to promote healthy sexual behavior and reduce the impact of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) in Riverside County. Trends in existing and emerging STDs are monitored and new knowledge about STDs, risk behaviors, treatment and prevention is gathered on an on-going basis.


The program also promotes behavior that prevents the spread of STDs, while diagnosis, treatment, counseling, partner notification and referrals are provided to those suffering from STDs. For the health care community, the program offers technical and clinical expertise.


Finally, we assure accessible health services to anyone who thinks they may have been exposed to a STD.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under general direction, positions in this series perform professional work in primary care medicine involving the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients at the Department of Public Health clinics; and performs other related duties as required.

This class provides categorical-medical delivery services at the Department of Public Health HIV/STD clinics.

Advancement to the next Physician level is contingent upon satisfactory performance and evaluations by appropriate supervisors and completion of a residency-training program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) OR by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
 

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

In the course of supervising medical cases, conduct medical examinations; diagnose medical conditions; prescribe and administer treatment and/or medication.

Order examinations, analysis, imaging diagnostic tests, and special diets; conduct rounds and review reports, records, and general progress of patients.

Assist in directing and supervising the work of residents, interns, and medical students in an assigned field.

Arrange and conduct consulting conferences and chart reviews for the discussion of the surgical, medical, and mental conditions of patients and their final diagnosis and treatment.

Discuss findings with private physicians and consult with physicians in the community and members of other agencies concerning problems related to the operation of public health programs.

Act as the primary consultant to staff regarding the medical aspects of the public health programs; review public health programs to ensure compliance with State policies and regulations.

Instruct Registered Nurses and other medical staff in the care and treatment of patients; determine necessity for referral and refer persons requiring special diagnostic procedures or treatment to appropriate sources.

Prepare reports and correspondence; participate in clinical research; author articles for publication in medical/scientific journals; give presentations regarding research projects at medical/scientific conferences.

RECRUITING GUIDELINES

License/Certificate: Possession of a valid Physician’s and Surgeon’s License issued by the State of California without restrictions and a valid Drug Enforcement Agency registration.

Knowledge of: The principles and practices of modern medicine and its application, techniques, procedures, and equipment.

Ability to: Instruct residents, interns, and students in a designated specialized medical service; prepare comprehensive and concise records; conduct medical examinations; diagnose medical conditions; prescribe treatment and medications; analyze and interpret public health data; administer the medical component of public health programs; maintain effective relationships with staff and patients.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a valid California Driver’s License is required.
