Responsibilities

Venice Family Clinic is a community health center whose mission is “To provide quality primary health care to people in need.” Venice Family Clinic cares for over 28,000 low-income patients in over 120,000 visits annually who might otherwise go without critically needed health care services. Venice Family Clinic has eleven clinical sites with over 350 staff, 1,700 volunteers, and a budget of $50 million. We provide high quality, comprehensive primary and specialty health care, dental, mental health, substance use treatment and child development services to underserved individuals and families on the Westside of Los Angeles.    

Under the direct supervision of the Common Ground Prevention Supervisor and the Director, you will conduct HIV and Hepatitis C testing and counseling when scheduled on site and at various community events throughout the year. You will provide non-judgmental client centered counseling to clients and will ensure newly diagnosed HIV+ and/or Hepatitis C+ clients are referred and linked to medical services within the required time frame. Following the harm reducton model, they will treat every person whom they interact with respect and dignity. In this role, you will also provide HIV/STD education and risk reduction interventions, condoms and general clinic information to clients. You will coordinate and provide targeted community outreach and HIV testing and counseling and provide PrEP and PeP information and referrals.

As our Prevention Advocate, you will also educate clients on overdose prevention, wound care, prevention education and referrals to various agencies and provide clean syringes to clients at certified locations and dispose of dirty syringes in an appropriate manner.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and antibody testing, PrEP and PEP, community resources, Hepatitis C and STD knowledge, harm reduction, and syringe exchange
  • Skill in database management, maintenance, queries, and data entry
  • Ability to complete required program documentation 
  • Public speaking and leadership ability 
  • Skill in providing individualized HIV health education, HIV testing  and  Counseling and Hepatitis C testing 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a group 
  • Ability to discuss sensitive matters in a non-judgmental manner and to respect confidentiality 
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse cultural and educational backgrounds 
  • Skill in maintaining cooperative working relationships with staff members and volunteers 
  • Ability to manage many deadlines
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English and Spanish
