Officials at the federal Centers for Disease Control (CDC) are advising doctors to switch to newer classes of drugs to treat gonorrhea because a common strain of the disease is becoming resistant to common antibiotics. Gonorrhea, which increases the risk of HIV transmission, infects more than 700,000 people in the U.S. each year.
