Following a week of speculation, Marsha Martin was named Wednesday to the tricky job of running Washington, DC’s AIDS administration, to start work September 7. Yes, that Marsha Martin, director of the Capitol Hill watchdog AIDS Action Committee, the oneaccused of being a Republican lapdog for agreeing to sponsor aninaugural ball for President Bush and refusing to support grassrootsefforts like AIDSvote. And yes, that AIDS administration job,the one Lydia Watts was dismissed from last week amid charges ofmismanagement and ineptness in her office. Certain Beltway busybodies’ lack of confidence in Martin’s abilities may only be exceeded by their eagerness to see DC’s HIV services begin to sort themselves out.
