Thank you for this beautiful heartfelt piece of writing. It brought me back to NYC my personal Oz in the 1980s and 1990s. I am almost ashamed to admit that a part of me did not want to think about the late 80s and early 90s in NYC - much too much grief that can never be expiated in one little lifetime. Which is where community comes in. We can avoid only so much reality before our mental health feels the awful toll. A community holds us close so we can face our losses. We need community.
