New Zealand Welcomes Positive Zimbabweans

August 31, 2006—New Zealand Health Minister Pete Hodgson announced yesterday that the government would grant all HIV positive Zimbabwean refugees permanent residence, as a special exception to its official immigration policy of barring infected applicants. Roughly 1300 Zimbabweans have sought refuge in the small island nation from the economic and political crisis at home.
