HIV Transmitted From Kidney Transplant in NYC

An organ transplant recipient contracted HIV from a live kidney donor in New York City, The Wall Street Journal reports. The hospital followed transplant-testing recommendations, but the donor apparently had unsafe sex after the initial screening and before donating the kidney, according to the city’s health department. This is the nation’s first reported transmission case via a living donor transplant since 1985 when donor screening was implemented.
