Child Forced From School in India Over HIV Status
A group of parents at a private school in Anantapur, India, forced a 4-year-old girl out of the school because they suspected she was HIV positive after they learned the girl’s parents were HIV positive, The Times of India reports. The girl has tested HIV negative, but her classmates’ parents were not convinced. They staged a protest outside the school and then took the girl to be tested for HIV at a private clinic and a government hospital, both of which refused. School administrators have no objection to the girl remaining.
