HIV Diagnoses Rise in Ireland

The number of people diagnosed with HIV in Ireland rose by 7 percent in 2007 over the previous year, Irishhealth.com reports (irishhealth.com, 6/16).

The figures come from the country’s Health Protection Surveillance Center. Of the 362 cases reported in 2007, 146 were reported from heterosexual sex, 65 from injection-drug use and 75 from men who have sex with men, according to the article.

The article also reports that HIV was diagnosed in eight children in 2007, and that the probable transmission route for six of those cases was mother-to-child transmission.
