Mayors Get Testy

by Nicole Joseph

June 27 is National HIV Testing Day, and the National Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA) is again asking America’s mayors to help lead the campaign. Last year, mayors from 34 cities, from New York City to Los Angeles to Lincoln, Nebraska, helped promote HIV testing. This year, NAPWA hopes to double that number. Each mayor will get 500 testing kits donated by Orasure to share with fellow residents. The goal is not only to gauge the true scope of the American epidemic but to curb it—and get care to those in need. At press time, the AIDS community still awaited new annual HIV infection numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention—figures expected to be up to 50 percent higher than previous estimates. To learn more about National HIV Testing Day, visit napwa.orgor hivtest.org.

I LOVE your magazine ... you make my job so much easier, fantastic articles, illustrations, ideas, hope, hope and more hope ... you know what matters most. These two new articles about the amazing Marine, Mr. Ramos, and the look at Oakland, and something fantastic about Harlem - all of it helps me in my work. SAY AMEN SOMEBODY, POZ has got it going on!
