'Time' Names OraQuick Test in Best Inventions of 2012
OraQuick, the first rapid in-home HIV test, was named one of the best inventions of 2012 by Time magazine. Made by OraSure Technologies, the single-use test is available for $39.99 online and in stores nationwide. Administered with an oral swab, it gives results in 20 to 40 minutes. Other inventions on the list include a surface that anything will slide off, a solar water distiller, a motion-activated screwdriver and gloves that allow hearing-impaired people to communicate with those who don't understand sign language.
