In his "review" 'New York Museum Chronicles Early Days of AIDS in the City', Benjamin Ryan seems to me to simply be regurgitating a press release. Now I know in today's journalism many consider this writing an article. If Mr. Ryan tried passing this off at UC Berkeley, where I am attending school,he would be expelled, but to print this in POZ is not only insulting to your readers, it's irresponsible.Other people writing Or rewriting our history is dangerous and always need to be scrutinized.

AIDS, without the name, is the same disease that was identified as early as 1978. I was a graduate student on Long Island then, and had been abused by the NYC Board of Health 3 years earlier, because I had contracted (and been cured of) secondary syphilis. Needless to say. the abuse was not necessary, as the source was not traceable, and I had slready notified those potentially affected. Hysteria preceeded AIDS, in other words. Thanks for this article!
