" People with HIV need to get their act together...." Could you possibly be any more offensive? As a a person living with HIV (actually, AIDS) may I remind you that you cannot lump people who are HIV positive into one category as you imply with your statement regarding "People with HIV..." Many of us do have our act together; frankly, a lot more so than many not living with HIV.
I am really sick of this happening. I started compiling reports on HIV crimes as part of a research project related to my STD Carriers site and now my list has topped 100. I can't even keep up with listing all the new arrests and convictions while still fulfilling my other responsibilities as the owner of several online services. People with HIV need to get their act together and stop putting others at risk.
Although I agree with the conviction, 15 yrs??? Gee, murderers get off easier!! Just the Texas religious class invoking their hateful God and religion on their state citizens. A wise and religious Founding Father once said, "THE DOORSTEP TO THE TEMPLE OF WIDSOM IS A KNOWLEDGE OF OUR OWN IGNORANCE." Benjamin Franklin

Bill, You have a valid point about the sentence length and I agree that sentences are excessive in some cases, especially in Texas. If it were up to me I would make the sentence conditional as to the HIV status of the victim after being tested regularly after the incident with of course the most severe punishment being reserved for actual transmission. Kind of like a drunk driver hitting a pedestrian at 80 mph vs 2 mph the former sure to kill and the latter sure to bruise.
