The Global Network of People Living with HIV (GNP+) launched a website on World AIDS Day that documents HIV exposure/transmission laws and prosecutions around the globe, aidsmap reports. According to the site’s data, the United States tops the world table of HIV criminalization cases.

The GNP+ Global Criminalization Scan website has collected data from more than 150 jurisdictions in North America, Latin America, Europe and Central Asia and the Asia Pacific region. Additional data will be available from Africa and the Caribbean early in 2009.

According to the website, its aims are to “collect and keep up-to-date information on national or state level laws criminalizing HIV exposure or transmission,” “provide a clearinghouse for resources, research and initiatives on the subject” and “to provide a platform for advocacy initiatives.”
