I lost my hearing almost 2yrs ago,I've been poz since 96 and I'm undetected. The doctors think I had a very bad ear infection that caused the hearing loss in the right ear at the time, now the left ear I'm losing hearing in it they want to do a MRI on my brain to see what is really causing my hearing loss you have any suggestions?

I have been HIV+ for over 10 years now, and I will admit that my hearing ability has become less reliable. For years I experienced difficulty hearing in my right ear, mostly due to my former Disco Jockey years. Now it's both ears even years after I decided to put the head phones down. This is most definitely an issue I will be discussing with my Primary Care clinician. Having the ability to hear well is an important part of my career. IF there is a solution to this problem, I want to know it.

I agree with John Androite, I'd like to know how the researchers came up with the correlation between HIV infection and hearing loss. I don't want to jump to conclusions about what other issues HIV can cause but I do want to know the entire story when these studies are conducted.

I experienced hearing loss before learning of my status. I required an adenoidectomy and tubes in my ears because my sinuses had become infected due to being HIV+ and not knowing. My sinuses were not draining properly and the fluid was flooding my ear canals. I know the validity of this article's title. I'm better since my procedure and actually try to ignore sounds.

I would be interested--more than merely intellectually interested, as I am HIV-positive myself--to know if the researchers speculated as to why, exactly, HIV might contribute to these people's hearing loss. I tend not to let these sorts of alarming/ist studies get me down without knowing particulars--including other risk factors besides HIV alone.
