I see recklessness and possible harm through hiv transmissions in framing this issue as a challenge to a mere "GAY blood ban" instead of a "LIFELONG gay blood ban", as many gay organizations do. As the HIV-Epidemic is 35 years old and no other major stems have emerged in the last decade, a 12-month referral (because of possible hepatitis C) makes more sense to me than LIFELONG ban. On the other hand gays need to acknowledge that gay sex is far more dangerous and CANNOT be treated the same.

A chronic condition does and should not stigmatize the person with the condition or those associated with such persons. Real and current education along with advocacy begins the process.
