If circumcision works so well against HIV, why are there six African countries where the circumcised men in those countries are more likely to be HIV+ than the intact men. Why do the two continents with the highest circumcision rates also have the highest rates of HIV? Are there teams of people looking for benefits to female circumcision? At least two studies have linked female circumcision with lower HIV rates.

This story is NOT based on an American study and so, does not necessarily relate to American (and therefore African-American) men. Pediatric circumcision should NOT be advised because of these studies. Infants are not having intercourse and by the time the current generation of newborns are grown, it is hoped that a cure or vaccine for the virus will be found. Circumcision should not be recommended for infants when the disease is based on transmission through adult activity.
