Very interesting, I am a 55 yo male, who was diagnosed with final stage AIDS in 2014. I had many of these symptoms, prior to being diagnosed, but were thought to be from pain medication due to Melanoma, which ended up being a result of the undiagnosed HIV/AIDS. I would very much be interested in communicating my experience prior to, and after antivirals.

I was diagnosed with aids 6 years ago and my clinical depression begun about the same time MDs estimated I originally became infected with HIV. Like another commenter here , "Ben " meds barely make and impact - its a fight with depression everyday. I also noticed my vision declined rather rapidly around the same time as well.

Yeah, don't get your hopes up, especially given the rate at which they're moving. Tomorrow's newly diagnosed are going to be in adult diapers before we have an effective treatment, unless we actually start putting some pressure on them to do something.

If they would conduct tests I'd happily be a part of the research. Since I've been HIV+ I've had huge problems with depression, have talked to my physician about it, anything prescribed has NOT helped, and starting a new job several months ago - learning something new is horrendous. I've always been able to comprehend new concepts and procedures, now, not so much, very frustrating!

I've been HIV/AIDS for 25 years have battled depression and brain symptoms. Doctors have made some anecdotal connections but no firm statements. Finally a treatment can be made available. Too meany of my friends have committed suicide over the lose of mental cognition, more so than having HIV.Thank you for this information and i will take it to my next medical appointment.

I was diagnosed with AIDS 17 years ago this month and I've noticed random memory loss and other impairment over the years. I'm also wondering if the depression I constantly work against has something to do with an HIV infection which was pretty much out of control for eight years (my VL went below detectable in March 2003). Knowing a problem exists is the first step to treating it. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

this is great news, i experience slight effects and im on possibly the best regimen you can get in the western world and have been infected only 4 years 3 months and undetectable just under 4 years. So the dementia and cognitive effects of hiv are still noticeable even with the best treated patients and it is important we have strategies to combat these symptoms. Im so happy to hear of this news since it raises hope not just for hiv patients but others with other brain impairment.

I have been pos for 15 years now and although the virus is well controlled, I do feel that I do have a recognisable increase in depression and cognivity. A very interesting article which I will bring to the attention of my HIV doc next visit.
