I was diagnosed with HIV in 1991, because at the time most people were dying very quickly, I spiraled into a 5 or 6 year alcohol and drug abuse lifestyle. My CD4 count was down to 200. After speaking with my doctor John Gill in Calgary, he began to treat my HIV with AZT and other antivirals. I have since been on a couple of experimental studies. I am currently taking Sustiva and Combovir, my HIV remains undetectable.

i have been hiv positive for 33 years...was diagnosed with "GRID" in 1981 before hiv was called just that. i have spent all 3 decades of my diagnosis smoking cigarettes abusing cocaine and alcohol, not to be mistaken with trying to abstain from all 3...just with not much success...i also am co-infected with HEP B&C for almost as many years....i am healthy with outstanding blood counts...can you explain me????
It is good news, I guess. But I'm skeptical about longevity predictions. A well-known AIDS doc told me I would be dead in "24 months." That was in 1986. He kept revising his prognosis every couple of years. After the third time I said, "You don't have any fucking clue what you're talking about do you?â? He replied, "No." I was annoyed. Than why millions people still die from hiv every day.
I would have never dreamed I would have survived the HIV disease for 30 years, this month, but it happened.

My brother was diagnosed in 1987. He was given little chance of living then as many were dying quickly, he did not. We lost him in Oct of 2014. He started a cocktail of meds after his counts dropped to zero. He later developed lung cancer. Surgery & chemo were done. What finely took him was septic shock and e.coli, greatly complicated due to wasting syndrome. He looked like a skeleton with a skin covering. He first prepared to die after diagnosis and then hed to learn yo live and he fought hard.
