I believe that I owe my survival for over twenty years with HIV and brain-related symptoms (inflamation of blood vessels in the brain, resulting in TIA's and a stroke) to having a physician knowledgable enough to include an ARV which crosses the blood brain barrier in my drug regimen. Thanks, doc!
Dear Marcia, The drugs listed here were those mentioned by the study's author at the EACS meeting. You are correct that Kaletra has been found to penetrate CSF, and the lack of mention here was inadvertent.
I was very excited to see that POZ kept up to date on studies and was fair and balanced until I read this article. There was no mention of LPV/r's robust affect on the CSF as well as the lact of additional information on studies that support the lack of sufficient ATV/r concentration levels in the CSF to suppress the HIV virus, like Brookie Best's report on "ATV Concentration in CSF". I do not think is is far nor wise to report on certain drugs if all studies are not considered.

So glad to hear this sort of news, but in our country Nepal, once you are diadnosed toxoplasmosis, cryptococcal meningitis or AIDS dementia complex, there is no treatment and survival rate is zero once you diagnosed with these sort of diseases. There is only one hospital at Teku where these sort of patients are treated with just Cotrimoxazole that too if the patient is conscious or else the patient is left to die with just normal saline and polibion in it.
