S. Fitzgibbons MD
One of the saddest patients I ever cared for was an African-American woman who came in to be tested after reading the diagnosis on her husband's death certificate. She was totally clueless about anything involving HIV care, so I suggested she join a support group. "Oh, no, I couldn't do that!" she said. "What if somebody from my church saw me going there?" Unfortunately a lot of preachers of ALL kinds get so busy condemning "sinful" practices that compassion and forgiveness get forgotten.
