POZ Personals (poz.com) is the go-to site for singles living with HIV. But what about those wishing to wade in a less specialized dating pool? By de-emphasizing their status in an online profile, will they more easily find love—or letdowns?

Match.com’s senior manager of public relations, Allison Clark, says that “most members don’t choose to disclose [HIV status] in their profiles.” American Singles, meanwhile, says on its site that “serious cyber-savvy daters will respect your space and allow you to take your time” in revealing your status. Caroline Long, 40, positive since 1986, says that listing her status in an online profile has helped her concentrate on the more routine points of dating. “I’m still hoping to find The One,” she says. “Positive or negative. Who knows?”
