I would not want to go to an orthodox bigot's business either i am sure Asare can use the new pro bigot ruling by the US Supreme Court
Mine was 2009 so I probably missed the boat. Good luck with yours though mark! Back in 1985 I was working in medical field and was diagnosed on the phone at work. Confided in friend and next day everybody knew up to kentucky. Was fired immediately. Got atty but no law protecting us. I got years of wasted time. Drs still don't understand it. I don't think they will until THEY get it or a loved one does. Then they take the take to really learn.
This is not the first case, the first was a Landmark lawsuit filed in March 1992 by the ACLU "Fuentes vs Reich". After calling and informing the clinic that he was HIV positive and had a cut hand, he told to come in with no problem. When he arrived he was then informed that Dr. Thelma Reich would not treat him, because he was HIV positive. He filed suit the following month and won a year later!
Come to Canada for your surgery. It's cheaper, and we don't have such asinine discrimination. So much for these surgeons being educated - but then, you have a homophobic brain surgeon running for the GOP candidacy, so in the States, education must be selective.
I too was refused Liposuction surgery by a NYC Doctor because I was HIV+. This was the 1990's. I sued. I won. Sad that this is still happening 20+ years later.
I too was discriminated again because of my status the doctor didn't have the balls to tell me he left it up too his staff I was soo!! Devastated I had to leave work and had thoughts of killing myself for the first time since my dx in 2008. If anyone know of an attorney that will hear my case plz let me know.
Jeri, that sounds awful. This is my case and it's just been filed. If you click on the press release, you'll find a link to a DOJ form to file a complaint - I don't know what the statute of limitations is. Good luck!

Neil, the ADA trumps the Holly Hobby Supreme Court decision. Doctors are not allowed to discriminate against anyone with HIV, and they need to be aware that this applies to elective procedures.
