Results are not surprising, when you are depressed, you don't take care of yourself. Why? For some it is because they are dealing with just coping. But I think that another important factor is that many are on welfare or disability and simply can't afford it or the programmes that are offered are too much to deal with. It would have been interesting if they also had socio-economic categories, that I'm sure it would show that this affects the poor at a much higher rate.

And poor oral and mental health are related to severity / depth and constancy of depression regardless of HIV or not! Do we really need these studies to tell us what is blatantly self evident? I do so hate these "evidence based" times that we live in. We live in a world in which common sense isn't trusted or valued any more unless it is backed up with a study that proves it.
