Pope Francis may not bring about all the changes we covet, but he is far ahead of all of his predecessors and the clergy of many Protestant and Jewish groups. This man makes controversial statements and very few parishes ever mention them. I'm all for giving him a chance to make the changes which are within his ability to accomplish. We are way ahead of where we have ever been before. Now, I do not fear Rome; I fear the idiots in the pews who continue to be "religious" bigots.
For jeez sake guys. Last line, really? The Pope, unlike any before him, addresses issues that are near and dear to many more people, outside the "Equality Marriage Movement. Oh for example.. HIV/AIDS, Human Rights, and including LGBT issues. Prison reform. All issues beyond those within the "Equal Marriage Movement", but that are still LGBT issues. I have my own political, and social issues with the "Equality Movement.. but some other time. Give the Pope a break. He's doing more than many have.
Why are the pronouncements of this guy even news. Has supposed tolerance of us is just a facade; as the article mentioned, he vigorously opposes marriage equality. Plus, the 21st century simply has no need for snake-oil salesmen peddling iron age fairy tales. "Half miracle" indeed, what rubbish.
The title is misleading. The pope spoke to prisoners....some of whom were gay, transgender or have HIV/AIDS. He didn't say anything special or recognize them in any way. Nice way to mislead us into thinking he actually said something supportive in recognition to gay, transgendered and HIV+ people.

Even though I am a non-believer in any religion, I do respect this Pope's stance on many issues. That said, I do hope that he will take a more positive approach to income inequality, the plight of the poor, women's rights and same-sex marriage. A tall order, yes, but hope springs eternal.
