Welcome to the 2nd Annual POZ Awards, which spotlight the best representations of HIV/AIDS in media and culture.

The POZ editorial staff selects the nominees, but POZ readers choose the winners.

Eligible nominees were active or were presented, published or produced between October 1, 2016, and September 30, 2017.

Here are the nominees:

“F*ck w/out Fear” (Los Angeles LGBT Center)

Los Angeles was treated to a stunning message on billboards and print ads this year when this campaign announced that, with a little help from PrEP, you could do it in bed without dread, in a manner of speaking.

“PrEP4Love” (Chicago PrEP Working Group)

The striking visuals of this campaign—black and white photographs of pairs of lovers in every possible combination of gender and sexuality—brings an immediacy matched only by the candid language and message.

“Start Talking. Stop HIV.” (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention added elements to its ongoing campaign this year by creating videos of gay men talking about the risks they face and the precautions they take. The videos are informative, engaging and have the feel of lived experience.
