The New York State Department of Health is encouraging anyone who has been in sexual contact with Robert Musmacker, a convicted HIV-positive sex offender from Oceanside, Long Island, to get tested, Newsday reports.

According to the article, the 36-year-old was arrested December 28 in West Babylon in the company of a 16-year-old boy who was in the car Musmacker was driving. Musmacker told authorities that he is HIV positive. The boy’s HIV status was not revealed.

Investigators believe Musmacker may have had sexual contact with at least one other young male and perhaps others.

Musmacker, who is being held on a $1 million bond, has pleaded not guilty to charges of reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. A trial date has not been set. In 1992, Musmacker was sent to prison for six years after pleading guilty to molesting a 6-year-old relative.

“If you have been in sexual contact with this man or you have been with someone who has been in sexual contact with him, you have got to be tested,” health department spokesperson Claudia Hutton said. “We’re not looking to compile evidence. We’re looking for people who need to protect their health.”
