The first ever press conference on the rights of lesbian, gay, transgender and bisexual people in Uganda was held yesterday at a hotel in Kampala. Among the concerns expressed was the government’s lack of HIV prevention, testing, treatment and outreach for gay people.

Seven panelists—some wearing elaborate masks to hide their identities—spoke to a crowd under a banner that said: “God created us like this, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Intersex (LGBTI), Let Us Live In Peace."
