this is despicable ... the medical and lab greedy getting on their pinnacle as having millions in denial avoiding diagnose and treatment, spreading the disease left and right with they high viral loads, wasn't enough... now we will have a class of people that need to quit their treatment because health insurances corporations can't squeeze themselves to provide the medications NEEDED. All the co pays went higher as well the deductibles... what's their problem.. Kaiser is the worst of all
co-pay went from 140 last year to 574 this year (Tier Five) I had no choice but to stop taking the medication, was undetectable with Tcell of 640 to 161,000 VL and Tcell of 400 in 30 days, talk about getting sick, doc says I could be in for a bad ride. Thanks congress, for the AFA.
I have an employer sponsored health insurance plan through Humana and experienced this same situation. My co-pay for my single tablet regimen had been $55 per month for the last 4 years. When I went to pick up my refill in January I was informed that Humana had, without notice, reclassified the medication as a specialty medication andv the co-pay would be $718 until I reached my maximum out of pocket for the year.
The rise in my copay to $ 30 brings the total monthly costs of my six HIV meds to $180 a month, that is only the HIV meds. Add in my other meds, and my cost is going threw the roof. Since i am part owner of a biz, my health care, deductables 1K, copays and thing not covered like vitamins ect. It is so expensive that my pay might not cover me and my savings are being used to stay alive, food shelter ect.
All that I can say is that I am very thankful I live in Canada...
please make the drugs cheaper for people that have hiv you know the drus aere too expensive for most people so you need too make these cheaper.

At least there is a cure for hepatitis-C, and therefore a limit to the treatment costs. HIV treatment goes-on forever, or until death do us part.
